Without a doubt, it takes earnest study and time to acquire an excellent level of English. But non-native speakers have a unique opportunity. If, as a non-native, you have made the effort to reach a high level of English, the result is very impressive, and reflects very well on you, your company and its products. This is usually the case, for instance, with the Dutch and the Swedish. They perform very well in the global marketplace!
On the other hand, if your English is mediocre, your business counterparts may suspect that you are trained to a similar level in your profession. Or even that your company and its products are similarly mediocre!
